President's Message
ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø's commitment to civic action and respectful dialogue
President Ginsberg reflects on ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø's civic engagement and shares opportunities to stay involved
Students, faculty and staff,
We see ºÚÁϳԹÏ꿉۪s commitment to civic engagement and civil discourse in action every day, but it has been especially evident this election season. I am very appreciative for the responsible engagement of our university community during this election season and for your meaningful contributions and dedication to democratic participation.
It is inspiring that so many members of our campus, across all backgrounds and political affiliations, have engaged in opportunities for dialogue and civic engagement. This underscores ºÚÁϳԹÏ꿉۪s role as a nationally recognized leader and reflects the values we hold as an institution for the public good.
We are fortunate to be at a university where we reflect on important moments in history in real time. But we also know that each election cycle brings a range of outcomes and emotions that members of our community process in their own ways. ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø offers a variety of resources to help you to navigate these feelings and maintain your well-being.
There are also numerous opportunities to stay engaged in civic conversations in the coming weeks. Consider joining us at an upcoming event.
- This year’s Economic Outlook Forum on Thursday, Nov. 5, will examine how the results of the elections could shape economic policy and regional growth.
- The Ben & Myrna Cardin Center for Civic Engagement & Civil Discourse will host Representative Jamie Raskin to discuss the results of the midterms and examine what the outcomes mean for the future of American governance on Monday, Nov. 16.
- The Office for Social Impact will host its annual on Wednesday, Dec. 2, to reflect on the election, consider its impact and explore sustained ways to engage in civic life.
As an anchor institution for Maryland, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø plays an important role in serving the entire region throughout the election cycle. For example, we were pleased to again serve as a polling location, and we soon will host the inauguration of the next Baltimore County Executive.
Civic responsibility becomes civic action when we listen to each other intentionally and respectfully. It’s this culture of understanding that makes ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø such a wonderful place to learn, live, work and grow.
Thank you for making ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø proud.
Sincerely,
Mark R. Ginsberg, Ph.D.
President
