AUDITIONING FOR SYMPHONIC BAND ONLY?

  • Choose TWO scales from the AUDITION SCALE SHEET
  • Play a 1–2-minute excerpt of any music you feel best demonstrates your ability and musicianship (ex. part of a band piece you've played, part of an etude or solo, your favorite melody)
  • NOTE: Though you should have at least a basic functioning level on your instrument, this is primarily an opportunity for me to hear you play so appropriate repertoire and part assignments can be chosen. You should not stress about this - try your best and demonstrate the best sound you can make on your instrument!

AUDITIONING FOR WIND ENSEMBLE (or both)?

  • Prepare ALL audition materials for your instrument found in this AUDITION FOLDER
  • Prioritize great tone and musicianship over tempo (ideally tempo will be accurate also)
  • You can and should seek out multiple reference recordings
  • Perform the excerpts with intentional musicianship - clear phrasing/direction, dynamic contrasts as notated, decisive articulations, and clean rhythms
  • Do YOUR best!
